Parvaneh Riekman

Parvaneh’s story begins in Iran where she was born. She was always attracted to art, however in her pre-adult years it was not allowed due to the circumstances where she lived. Due to her Bahá’i Faith, her home was confiscated in the revolution and her family was fearful for their safety. In 1984, she escaped to Pakistan with her oldest son. They lived there for 1 ½ years until we were accepted into Canada as a refugee. After raising her two sons, her passion for art was rekindled.

Parvaneh is attracted to the abstract side of art using lots of colors. She uses a mixture of mediums – watercolour, acrylic, oil, wax, and mixed media – but gets the most enjoyment from using Japanese washi paper.

She moved to Victoria in the spring of 2023. Parvaneh notes, “the beautiful landscape with all the flowers are a daily inspiration. It is also where I can spend time with our two wonderful grandchildren.”

Once a month, Parvaneh hosts a senior ladies class to learn how to paint.
