Jean is a Victoria based contemporary artist. Art is at the forefront of her daily life – if she is not painting she is thinking about painting. Her amazing overgrown gardens provide inspiration where she walks every morning taking hundreds of photos before heading into the studio.
For the last 13 years Jean has committed to painting, rarely missing a day in her studio. She is mostly self taught, but through the years has also taken workshops with several artists. After so many years of dedication she has become her own teacher: ”Learning and experimenting daily, whether I am in my studio painting or working out playing with colour and composition in my head, these things have been pivotal for my growth as an artist”.
Colour is always the main attraction in Jean’s work, pink is a front runner (which she thinks of as a neutral), and florals are the subject. She describes her brush strokes as loose and not perfect and this is is how she wants people to see her work — “nothing perfect or organized, just something that brings you in and makes you want to stay for awhile”.
