In 2009 while walking on a beach in Mexico, Barb met a lady from Port Alberni. She was making pine need baskets – and it immediately had Barb interested as they were beautiful and this art form was so portable – something very useful when travelling. Along the way, Barb has met great teachers in kelp weaving, and pine needle basket making, and with much encouragement from family and friends, she has made a large quantity of small baskets.
On another trip to Arizona, Barb was introduced to gourds at the Wuertz Gourd Festival, and brought home a bag of gourds to experiment with. She loves that you can do so many things with gourds. Lately she is working on her wood burning skills and having fun making thunder gourds.
